Willoughby & Baltic, an excellent hacker/maker space in Somerville of which I happen to be a member, is holding a class on Urban Games & Adventure Design, meeting weekly for 10 weeks starting January 28th. The class will meet in Davis Square, Wednesday evenings at 7pm and will be taught by Bonnie Shaw, who has written games that have run at the Come Out and Play Festival in NYC and in London. (I’ve been to Come Out and Play in NYC, it is super amazing.)
It’s $500 to register for the class, and you get to learn urban game design (think Pac-Manhatthan) from experienced designers. Plus the end result of the class is that the game you make will run at Come Out and Play in NY this year! If you’re interested, do check out their page.

Thanks for the plug! The Urban Games and Adventures class is going to be 10 weeks of exciting development and fun where we learn to use our city as a playground.
Just a little clarification – I am an urban designer and creator of a game called Snap-Shot-City – which has been played at both the NYC based Come Out & Play festival and the London based Hide and Seek festival (and 100′s of other cities around the world) – but can’t take ANY credit for organizing these terrific games festivals myself!
The class will introduce a host of international expert guests and we will submit the game we design as one to potentially be played at Hide and Seek and Come Out and Play festivals in 2009.
Hope you are up for the adventure and come join us for some city scale fun!
Bonnie
My mistake, Bonnie! I’ve updated the post to clarify.
