August Meeting

For our August meeting, we will be hosting a panel discussion called "Taking Game Design to the Next Level." This is an in-depth reprise of Linda Currie’s design panel from IGC East, which was seriously one of the best design talks I’ve ever attended. The topic of discussion is the "really important things" about game design. The panelists are a brilliant bunch:

  • Linda Currie, Creat.
  • Steve Meretzky, Playdom.
  • Chris Foster, Harmonix.
  • Christopher Zirpoli, Moonlight Media Consulting.
  • Cardell Kerr, Turbine.

I’m told that even if you attended the previous panel it will be worth seeing this one, as they’re going to take some of their conclusions from the prior one and examine them more closely. Topics you might expect to be covered include focus statements, balance, interface, collaboration, choice vs discovery, communication and followthrough, constraints, the dangers of overdesign, iteration, and research.

The meeting will be on Tuesday, August 11th, at The Skellig in Waltham at 7pm. Directions here.

Hope to see you then!

It’s not exactly high concept, but few community games offer this level of polish. It’s focused, controls well, and offers slick presentation in all the right places.
