The June meeting of Boston Post Mortem will be held on Wednesday the 9th at 7pm at The Skellig in Waltham. Our speaker is Chris Allen of Infrared5, who will be discussing their Brass Monkey SDK, a networking library for connecting a mobile device as a controller to a game running on a computer.

Full details below:

Creating Cross Platform Games and Beyond Using Brass Monkey SDK

Infrared5’s President and CEO, Chris Allen will cover cross platform experiences and how they can be easily created using tools like Unity 3D and their new cutting edge Brass Monkey SDK. Brass Monkey is at its core a networking library for interconnecting mobile devices and computers over a local WIFI. Brass Monkey’s primary use is as a controller, where a mobile device, say an iPhone, uses its built in controls like an accelerometer to communicate to a web based experience (Unity3D, Flash). Chris will demo some examples including the upcoming Star Wars Trench Run Game, as well as show how to use the SDK to create these experiences. He will also demonstrate many of the possibilities this new technology opens up to developers and designers alike.

With extensive experience developing for the Flash platform, Unity3D, iPhone and Java, Chris Allen is a leader in the open source Flash community. Over the last ten years, he has been a software architect and developer for major enterprises including Cambridge Technology Partners, Mass General Hospital and Scholastic. Chris is currently president and CEO of Infrared5 and is co-project manager and a Java developer for the open source Red5 project. He lives and works with his wife, Rebecca, in Boston, MA.
