This month’s Boston Post Mortem is next week, WEDNESDAY, June 13th at 7pm at The Skellig in Waltham.

We are featuring a talk by Seth Sivak of Zynga Boston:

Indiana Jones Adventure World: Making Core Gameplay for Everyone

When Zynga Boston set out to build Adventure World, they searched for a way to the bring traditional gameplay of action-adventure games to the browser. Puzzles, combat and exploration needed to be distilled so that any user could understand and navigate with only a left mouse click. In this presentation Seth Sivak, lead designer of Indiana Jones Adventure World, will present lessons learned and the challenges of bringing core game mechanics to the social genre.

Speaker bio: Seth is the lead designer at Zynga Boston, which released Indiana Jones Adventure World in September of 2011. In 2011, Seth was named one of the Top 50 game developers by Game Developer Magazine. Prior to Zynga, Seth worked at Conduit Labs as a gameplay engineer on several Facebook games including Music Pets and Super Dance. Seth has a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Northeastern University and a Master of Entertainment Technology degree from the Carnegie Mellon Entertainment Technology Center. While in graduate school Seth worked on Winds of Orbis, which was an IGF Student Finalist in 2009.

Additionally, in light of the recent events at 38 Studios, we have reached out to a number of local area studios asking them to send recruiters or folks with knowledge of available jobs to the meeting. There should be lots of job announcements and people available to talk about openings. If you were at 38 studios or are looking for a job in the industry, please make an extra effort to attend this meeting!

This month’s meeting is generously sponsored by EDGE Technology Services, who in addition to having open positions in the area, will be providing drink tickets and will raffle off something cool.
