full time Design Manager

at Disruptor Beam in Framingham, MA

Disruptor Beam is building a new generation of games for every screen, based on popular universes like Game of Thrones and Star Trek. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing company, alongside a veteran team, working with some of the most iconic brands in entertainment.

Disruptor Beam is seeking a highly motivated, positive and experienced design manager to support the various roles within the design group. This position encompasses managing game, ux, and technical designers as well as writers. You’ll be responsible for facilitating each designer's career development, motivating and monitoring them, working with leads to evaluate their performance, and providing coaching and counseling as needed. You will also champion department standards, help hire new designers, and encourage and realize training opportunities to ensure folks are contributing their best efforts to the team.

The ideal candidate has comprehensive knowledge of the state of the game industry, a solid grasp of the software development life cycle as it relates to games, and design team personnel roles and responsibilities.

What You’ll Do
Report directly to the Director of Product & Design
Ensure designers are meeting the requirements of their internal customers (game leads) and other project stakeholders
Manage design team conducted of System Designers, Narrative Designers and UX Designers
Provide coaching (mentoring, one-on-ones) and counseling as needed
Identify the need for new design hires and manage the hiring process
Lead and participate in design reviews with designers and project stakeholders
Facilitate growth and development of the design team
Champion a data-influenced design process by working together with other departments to ensure that tools are available for designers to use data in their work

What We Seek
Deep understanding of games and what makes them fun, both as gamer and a professional
5+ years management experience in at least one shipped title
Excellent knowledge of mobile free-to-play
Experience designing gameplay systems for mobile, free-to-play
Experience managing, coaching, and mentoring designers
Good cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, design, and art
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
