full time Director of Interactive Development

at Boston Productions, Inc (BPI) in Norwood, MA

BPI is an award-winning software development, media design and production firm that creates engaging immersive environments and interactive exhibits for Businesses, Museums, Visitor Centers, Zoos, Aquariums and other popular attractions.


Reporting directly to the COO, the Director of Interactive Development is responsible for overseeing and managing BPI’s interactive software development team.
We seek a rare individual, who is both an accomplished developer in his/her own right and also can be a capable leader and enthusiastic manager of people. The candidate will have a proven track record of solving problems and commitment to a high-level of customer service.

This position involves a mix of hands-on coding and the management of BPI’s software development team. Our projects are diverse, each offering new coding challenges with unique hardware/software combinations in order to meet client goals and create memorable moments for their guests.

Technical / Development Capabilities
1. 8+ years experience in hands-on code development. Particularly, experience with Unity C#, JavaScript, Java, Python, and C++ are valuable.
2. Expert understanding of the full-stack development process: front-end websites, stand-alone kiosk interactives, content management systems (CMS), APIs and other back-end systems
3. Experience designing and architecting large-scale software projects.
4. Must have a solid, working knowledge of Git or equivalent source control technology.
5. Experience in continuous integration and deployment.
6. Experience with build and scripting tools such as Windows batch files, VBScript, etc.
7. Has and maintains a familiarity with trends and new technology in the industry; uses that knowledge to make informed decisions regarding the technology used to build each project.
Leadership / Management Capabilities
1. Manage and provide day-to-day support and guidance for the interactive development team;
2. Collaborate with the creative department in project planning to determine how interactive exhibits will get built from a software development perspective based on client and end user requirements;
3. Oversee all phases of the software development lifecycle with emphasis on quality, performance, design, profitability, and best practices;
4. Help to make in-house vs. subcontract decisions in order to meet software project schedules;
5. Participate in the recruiting, hiring, and retention of members of the interactive development team;
6. Assist in budget development for those portions of projects which involve interactive development;
7. Perform regular performance evaluations with members of the interactive development team; and
8. Represent the interactive developers in Leadership and planning meetings at BPI;
9. Develop, maintain, and grow a scalable process for exhibits development, integrating it into BPI’s overall process.
