part time Technical Character Artist

BioStream Technologies is a startup that believes the field of medicine is entering a new era in which electronic assessments and interventions will revolutionize the way that mental disorders are diagnosed and treated. To date, BioStream has developed a prototype of a video game therapy to help children on the autism spectrum improve their social skills. We have also built a research platform that collects players’ physiological and behavioral data and enables the game to make adjustments in real-time based on that data. We have deployed the game in a clinical setting and in classrooms with encouraging results.

BioStream is seeking a part-time Technical Character Artist in the Boston, MA, Wilmington, DE, or Philadelphia, PA areas to help lead development of our video game therapy moving forward. The technical character artist will be a key member of our technical team at an important time in our growth. We are seeking someone who is highly talented and excited to engage in next-generation science-based video game development with a focus on achieving widespread social good. As a Technical Character Artist, you will be responsible for taking ownership over BioStream’s existing character assets by creating new animations for those characters and making adjustments to the existing models, rigs, emotional expressions, and animations on an ongoing basis (as needed). Much of this work is expected to be focused on the characters’ faces. You will also be responsible for lip syncing new character dialogue and making adjustments to existing lip sync clips. Over time, you may also be responsible for modeling, rigging, and animating new characters. You will collaborate closely with other members of the technical team to ensure smooth incorporation of the character assets into the project and to align on specifications and timelines, including via the use of issue tracking software.

Experience and technical skills:
• Experience with modeling, rigging, and animating in Maya
• Specific experience with facial modeling and blendshape animation
• Comfort with Unity Mecanim
• General familiarity with Unity Editor
• Specific experience with lip syncing (preferred)
