The Boston University Center for Digital Imaging Arts (CDIA) www.cdiabu.com in Waltham, MA is seeking a Career Services Specialist. Work schedule will be 40 hours per week onsite in the Career Services (CS) Department, and will involve weekdays/evenings and occasional Saturdays.
The position involves:
In this role you will be assisting students in developing job search skills, resume preparation, cover letters, interviewing and networking skills. There will be significant time spent developing and maintaining effective relationships with employers and community partners to identify employment and contract opportunities in order to proactively promote qualified students and alumni.
Post to, refresh, and maintain CS section of MyCDIA.com, our internal digital bulletin board/job search and event resource for students/graduates
Handle and distribute incoming (email and phone) requests for CS assistance via external sources, from employers, hiring managers, entrepreneurs, alumni, etc.
Assist with event planning, from marketing materials, managing RSVPs, ordering necessary accommodations, such as food, linens, equipment, etc.; and for Career Fairs, assist with calling to invite appropriate employers to participate
Attend/participate in CS-sponsored and CDIA events, such as Networking Nights, Gallery Openings, Screenings, Graduation, and Open Houses
Assist Admissions efforts by arranging, at CS Rep’s request, potential student to speak with alum from specific program/schedule, etc., and follow up to ensure the call is completed
Uncover and report news items to Marketing Dept for CDIA website
Peruse online job boards to find appropriate jobs/opportunities; research and find out details on internships that may be appropriate for CDIA grads before posting on MyCDIA.com. Manage CDIA LinkedIn Student & Alumni Group.
Data entry and extracting data/setting up/running reports in our Blackbaud database system; updating Word and Excel documents; updating Powerpoint workshops
Photocopy materials for workshops and special events
Seeking:
Two to Three years of experience using above skills. Excellent writing and grammatical skills, as well as accurate data entry skills. Effective, professional communication style in person and by email and phone with all levels, from student to graduate to staff/faculty to hiring managers. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Can function well in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with constantly changing priorities.
Also must have experience with: Word, Excel, Outlook, databases, etc.; researching jobs, internships, companies, and industries on the Internet; using social media tools; understanding basic math, formulas, managing and synthesizing large amounts of data, etc.; working in an office setting previously.
Please note that this position requires frequent evening and occasional weekend work, so flexibility of schedule is a must.
Additionally:
A background and/or interest in the creative arts (our six programs are: graphic and web design, digital photography, digital filmmaking, audio production, 3D animation, and web development) is very helpful. Experience in career counseling/coaching, recruiting, staffing, human resources, sales, teaching, and public speaking is a definite plus, as well as experience in an academic environment.
