Turbine, Inc. seeks a Designer, System for the LOTRO development department.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
• Work with departmental leads to develop concepts and treatments for new game systems.
• Collaborate with an internal team of systems and content designers to create compelling and balanced game experiences.
• Create and maintain complex data files related to items, monsters and other systemic content.
• Quickly learn and use proprietary tools and methodologies and write game scripts as needed to implement game mechanics.
• Maintain and iterate on existing game systems over the lifecycle of the game with an eye towards improving game-play.
• Create working design documents used in the course of implementation and that aid in the development of QA test plans.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
• College Degree or Equivalent Work Experience.
• 1 – 3 years previous industry experience.
• Demonstrable success in defining game systems, creating detailed design specifications and strong working knowledge of game mechanics and design principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience writing game scripts and working within script editors.
• Understands best practices in support of stable and reliable implementation strategies.
• Strong computer skills (very comfortable in MS Word, Excel, Visio, Test Track Pro, VersionOne, etc).
• Strong organizational skills: ability to keep track of minute details as well as the big picture while multitasking.
• Must be an avid gamer, with some experience as a gamer online.
• Intense creativity, a passion to innovate, and the drive to go beyond what is directly asked of you.
• A mature, professional attitude and work ethic. You need to be able to champion your ideas, yet accept and value the ideas of others.
• Ability to provide accurate work estimates for design constructs you already understand.
• Self-motivated with the ability to creatively problem solve.
• Familiarity with The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
